Once in place, the implant and replacement tooth look and feel like your natural teeth. They are strong and last for a lifetime if looked after properly.
Implants are used to replace a missing tooth or teeth and their use depends on the condition of the jaw bone.
Formed of two components – a titanium screw and replacement tooth – the metal fixture becomes a root for the new tooth which will be colour-matched to your existing teeth and appear natural. The metal screw is not visible as it is set into the jawbone.
It can take up to three months for the titanium screw to fully bond into the bone in the lower jaw and up to six months to bond into the bone in the upper jaw. Once bonded, the screw is ready to act as a root for the replacement tooth.
The average treatment time is four to six months from when the implant is first inserted into the bone and the replacement tooth is fitted.
Many patients prefer implants over crowns and bridges as they offer a permanent solution to replacing missing teeth.
Our dentists will advise if this is the most suitable option for you.
